300 u working well other than losing tranny fluid from under steering box mount.Today after working hard with cultivator and tiller smoke came from under the battery, from the inspection plate cover, smelled like burnt clutch.starts ok with clutch engaged, but with tranny in neutral and clutch not engaged it acts like it is still in gear, and wont start.Engaging the clutch to start engine while in nuetral then releasing the clutch the engine acts as if itis under load as if still in gearbut not moving. So i am in neurtal but engine is working harder than it would wiht my tiller in hard soil. tranny is pretty much out of fluid when checked today.

I would suspect you have had a bearing fail and seize. Consequently, it has spun in the housing or bore or on the shaft. Does the load on the engine increase with running time or load? Usually spun bearings get worse as they continue to spin and heat up. Depending on which bearing, repair may require a simple housing replacement, transmission case repair or replacement, or shaft repair or replacement to repair the damage done by the failed bearing. You will likely have to tear the transmision down to determine what has happened. Farmalldan

thanks for the tips, sounds like i will just put her away for good. The engine load does increase when moving, in fact it will stall out at 1/2 throttle moving in any gear with noload. No power steering, however a good front end loader and other part well maintained parts. Engine is fair shape could use a exhaust valve, though however I am up in regina saskatchewan canada.most likely a ways away.

Don't bury her just yet. I am just a few hours drive away just outside Calgary and parts and expertise are easy to find around here. If it is a case of not wanting to spend the wrench time, that is your choice. If it is a case of parts availability, I can probably help. There is a really good IH dealer nearby and NAPA has always been helpful.

It is your tractor so it is up to you to decide what to do, but if there is anything I can do to help keep your red worker alive, just post on the board.
