i would like to know from all you pulling engine builders how much i can mill a ih farmall 450 head with the stock dome 4-1/8 pistons in the engine? i am from arizona and want to show how good a m with the 450 engine can out pull any john deeres it faces. it"s time IH took back the arizona desert. IH was the king of farming for many years down here.

Heck I have seen tractor heads taken down so far you need 2 spark plug gaskets to keep the piston from hitting the plug ends. Yes, you might occasionally crack a head or two because they are so thin. Actually though I have never dissected a head to measure exactly how much thickness is available. If money is an issue then be cautious. I guess it is like cutting rotors, simply a judgement call.

You can mill them .125, the head plate thickness has to stay thicker than .300 thick, thats the material left over, measure it from the water ports. what ever is beyond .300, thats what you can safely remove, as long as the head has been checked and not cracked. You want power? haha,, I can tell you things youd never imagine on how to put a whooping on a deere at the track. More in a few, gotta run to town, but read the post above aboutthe W6,, that will get your feet wet on powering up your M. Chad
