Can you hurt a new or just rebuilt 2 way hydraulic cylinder if you use it for one way (1 hose) operation? Hydraulic up, gravity down, proper breather vent. I know that they are used all of the time that way but I was wondering if there will be any dammage? Thanks!!

Alternatively, if you have a remote return port and a quick connect on it you can run a hose from the back of the cylinder to the return port and it will keep it lubed all the time.

If the upper half of the cylinder is lubricated with a squirt of hyd. fluid once a week, I believe it will be fine. I have seen a very well sealed piston allow the rod half to wear from no lube at bushing.

Do not know if there is any damage but have used them that way 12 to 16 hours a day for weeks at a time and they held up fine.
