My Grandfather purchased a IH/Farmall Cub in the 50's and I am looking to get any information/manuals for it. No one is sure what year it is and I believe it is a 1952 model. I've tried looking up the Serial #, but found nothing. The serial no. on the engine, near the steering case is 170662 - J. Would anyone know how I can find the year and or are there any other serial numbers I should be looking for?

Duane does Gramps need any IHC CUB equipment? I have a front blade, full cultivators,a Plow and a 5' Woods Belly mower 4-sale.

I don't believe we will need any equipment for the moment. Gramps had many pieces of equipment, but over the years since he passed on, weeds and trees have taken over where he store them. I am in the process of locating the equipment, as I hack down the bushes, so I can try to restore them and the tractor. The tractor still runs but leaks oil and doesn't have any red paint left. I am going to try to repaint and restore the tractor the best I can as a way to honor my Grandfather's memory.

Duane:

Rusty is correct, it is a 1953 and the J does indicate that it has a Rockford Clutch. Tractors without the J would indicate that they have an Auburn Clutch.

This suffix was used to indicate which tractor had which clutch, so that the IH Techs at the time would be able to order the correct parts without splitting the tractor to determine which clutch was in it.

You can find that information on the Cub Manual Server at www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/index.html under the Cub Parts Manuals, TC-37F Revision 2, Suffix Letter Code.

Hope this helps

The serial number makes it a 1953, I believe the J suffix means it came from the factory with the Rockford clutch.

What makes a Rockford clutch differant then a regular clutch?

There is no such thing as a "regular" clutch. Two different clutches were used during production, Rockford and one other brand whose name escapes me now. This is probably due to the fact that neither manufacturer could produce clutches in the quantities IH needed at the time, so they bought from both companies.

You should find a serial number plate on the steering box. Then with those numbers go to the left of this page and look under serials number to get the year

I"ve tried looking for the serial no. on this site, and the no. is not there. Someone in this forum told me that it is a 1953. Thanks for the help.
