Does anyone know a method to increase the engine speed on my 400D? It is running at nameplate now but I believe another 100-200 rpm will boost my horsepower as well. Thanks in advance.

Hi , I can help with this. Under the oil filler hole on the injector pump (I believe 2 bolts hold this on)there are a couple of small screws. The one closest to the outside is the RPM screw. turn screw in for more RPM and out for less. Turn small amounts 1/4 turn at a time. Behind this screw or closer to the engine and still thru the oil filler hole is another screw with a 7/16 head and jam nut. Turn clockwise one turn for more horse power. I have done this for tractor pulling with these old beasts and it can really liven them up.

cubic inch is cubic inch, whether you are going 5 mph or 20 mph. If you want more horses, rebuild the motor or get a bigger one. If you want more torque, put shorter gears in the rear,,,...

If you need more horsepower, get a bigger tractor. All increasing engine speed will do is give you more horsepower on the dyno. You won't get any more torque. The tractor is still going to lug down under a load; it'll just take a couple extra seconds.
