Does anyone know where to pick up a reasonable 9 speed rear for a Farmall M? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

There are at least two different types of aftermarket 9 speeds. One was made by Heisler (out of business and no longer supported) and M&W which is part of some company with some level of current support. I have a Heisler in a 1951 M and it is operated by a gear shift type handle to the left of the standard gear shift. I have seen them for sale in the classifieds on this site on ocassion. Might be worth looking for or place a wanted ad. Good luck as I really like my Heisler which has 4 additional gears and speeds between the standard 4th and 5th.

Mark,
I got a used set of gears in 1999 from Glen Mlnarik, Little Red Tractor Co., Howells, NE, 402-986-1352. I installed the gears in my M and it works fine. The only problem I had was not getting a strong enough push/pull cable the first time (have one made at a speedometer shop) unless you get the lever type. The used cable that came with the set I got was rusted out. M&W does not make them anymore so you will have to find a used set pulled from a parts tractor.
