A few days ago I posted a problem with my SW6. When it was brought out in the spring it would not turn over very well 1/4 rev at best. The battery was good. I put on new cables #2 guage, no help. If I would tow the tractor it would start immiediatly and run great. I went to the trouble reluctently of getting #2/0 guage cables. They did not help. This problem had began to really aggravate me. I went back to the old starter it always worked but just not good turned real slow. The starter is a three bolt type with the switch on the top. I took the switch off and was glad to see what I had hoped would be the problem the big brass contact was all black and dirty from the vicious arc-ing (sp?) that must take place under there. I put everything back together after cleaningand it started like it probable did back in 1953.just beautiful. It even starts just as good with the #2 cables I first made for it. I thought the #2/0 were a little bit of an over kill they will look neat on my pulling tractor they don't belong on this SW6.
Thanks

You may want to take your starter to a starter repair shop and have them replace the contact button. I had a C that the starter would not work, even though it had been converted to 12 volt. Turned out the "button" had eroded over the years to the point the switch would not make sufficient contact. New button, problem gone.

It's great to trouble shoot and figure things out. When it is an inexpensive part like a starter switch vs a starter it's even better. Never to old to learn I say. My Dad used to say"Keep it simple stupid", a little crude, but very true..... ..... ....

It is a sad truth, I believe from looking at your equipment that even after you find the problem you go ahead and check out all the other possible sources of trouble and fix them as well.

When my tractor stops and I look in the gas tank first, and if it is empty, I fill it up and go on.

Be honest now, even after you fill it with gas you check the spark and clean out the fuel line anyway because they could have been the problem :-)

I envy your attention to detail.
