Ive had my block off my engine for a few months now and it is fully disembled. I went to Lynn, Indiana today and got my overhaul kit. I just want to know what I need to do before I start putting the kit in.

Thank you, Andy

P.S. I took out my freeze caps(getting new) and the engine block was fully of thick sludge. I cleaned it all out. Is that normal to have that sludge in there? Thanks again.

I would add one thing to what Hal has suggested. Take a pressure washer to the water jacket. If you don't have a pressure washer handy, go to a car wash. If you haven't done so, remove the water jacket cover and blast between the cylinders - especially at the bottom. Over the years a lot of sediment can accumulate in there. Merely "dipping" it in a tank won't sufficiently remove the grit and rust. I was amazed at how much came out of the block of my '47 H. Dry it immediately afterward and lightly oil all bearing surfaces so rust doesn't form on them.

That sludge was from short running periods and the the oil not changed often enough. The tractor
needs to be worked so it gets up to operating temperature.

The block probably needs to be degreased and the oil passages cleaned and blown out. New cam bearings are probably in order too. You need to have the crankshaft measured and is within specs.
Could need to be ground undersize or at least polished. This is what determines good oil pressure. Hal

I believe that the crankshaft is in spec or very close. I might have it polished anyway though. Most Oil Passages are cleaned and blown out(I might want to check that tomorrow though).

Thanks alot Hal!

Andy
