Thanks Rusty and Andy,

It took about me 15 minutes and I went about it like a chicken. Works fine -Thanks Fellas!

Also, I have a lever at the very bottom of the tractor and I don't know what it is. I have a photo but haven't figured out how to post it yet.

It at the very bottom of the tractor, below the pump levers on the right side.

Maybe I need to explain a little more. The sloted nuts on transmission and hydraulic pump shafts are replaced with splined nuts.A shifter
sleeve slides over splines.Shaft lever is on has a fork on it to move shifter sleeve. That is if all parts of that set up are still there.

Why not remove the dust cover on the bottom and see what it hooks to?

Well… I’m just learning about tractors, I’ve used them a lot 10 years ago, but (Big tractors- not little ones) just never work on any. Otherwise my interest in Farmall M tractors stems from the fact that I was able to track down my Grandpas first new tractor and it was an M, but has been used as a parts tractor and looks pretty rough now. So I bought and M that ran (the one Rusty posted a picture of for me) and a year older than my grandpa’s. Only the one I bought was equipped with a loader and a wide front which I will use until I piece grandpas back together for myself. I will sell the wf at that time.

Figured I could learn more, save some money and time just buying a running farmall M to look at while I piece together his. This website is a life saver for someone like me and I really appreciate the help. If anyone is fishing in the Midwest and needs some tips let me know.

And Hermit... I'm kind of a chicken about tearing into this stuff right now but I will get better. I'm still trying to figure out the levers :)

The lever is for aftermarket hydraulic pump drive disconnect.Used mostly on 9 speed equiped
tractors because the shaft turned a lot faster in high range.

Here's the photo, your tractor is equipped with an aftermarket 2 way hydraulic valve. Is the lever in question actually attached to anything, or is it just hanging there?

yes, the lever is attached to a rod assembly that is part of a bracket attached to inside (left) of the lowest red part (clutch housing? might fill me in on the proper name)that you see in the photo. The rod runs across the bottom side of the tractor and sits below and back of the clutch on the otherside. It has two settings like you said, that it sits in (pushed forward or backward)

What does this allow me to do or operate?

Thank you for you help in advance.

The lowest red part is the bottom of the hydraulic pump, more commonly referred to as a "belly pump", because it is in the "belly" of the tractor. It has nothing to do with the clutch, except that the clutch must be engaged in order for it to operate. So, does the lever in question go into the belly pump on the left side?

Glad to hear the 'ol girl is functioning again. Don't know about the lever, need to see the photo. If you go to galleries on the left side of this page, and click on tractor photos, you can upload directly from your computer.

I posted the picture under 1949 Farmall M. Its the lever beneath the pump lines and fitting and connects to rod that runs across and under the bottom of the tractor.

That's not a standard item. What does the other end of the rod connect to?

Have you tried pulling the lever? What happens?

This attachment is mounted just inside (left on photo) of the lowest part red part you can see (clutch housing) in the photo (I don't know the name of it). the lever is connected to rod that is mounted to this part.

The clutch is located on the otherside of this but just a little bit higher and forward. I sure they work together but I haven't figured it out.

This lever just goes forward and backward. I haven't played with it much.
