I have a 53 SW6. Its still on 6 volt and I can not get the starter to really turn the motor over to start it. Last summer it would start. This spring it would not. I installed new cables #2 guage they are only about a foot long. I thought the starter was bad so I swapped starters with another tractor and no help. I moved the ground to one of the starter bolts and it did not help. I had the battery fully charged and checked, it only will turn the motor a 1/4 revolution. If I tow the tractor it will start with in afew feet and run perfect. I am really stumped any help would be greatly appreciated.

Starter switch corroded/rusty? Try 6 volts straight to the starter, no switch, use jumper cables. I have 1/0 cables, new starter switch, new battery on my W6, cranks slow, always starts.

I think you need heavier battery cables. Here's a web site for new cables. Hal

I'm going to write this assuming you have a magneto. I had a H that would turn over so slow it would hardly make it through the compression strokes but even so it ALWAYS started after I had the mag rebuilt.

#2 may still be a little small you need 0 to really get it there. Set a 12 volt on and see what happens, the 12 volt battery will hurt any thing as long as you don't run it very long that way. If you try to run it long with 12 volt you will burn to points but it will tell you if its the starter or something else
