CX 80 bought used has overheating problems. It will show temperatures in the red zone even hauling round bales. Radiator has been washed out. Entire dash unit with gauge and temperature sending unit have been replaced. Thermostat has been replaced with one from Case IH. Last week the water pump and fan belts were replaced. The fan clutch has resistance when checked by hand. We were told by the dealer that some of the CX80's had 2 thermostats, but this one has only one. Has anyone else experienced the same problems with this or a similar model. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

First are you sure it is running hot or just the gauge tells you it is hot. The sender has changed on this unit to a new number 4197921A2. Also there is a bulletin on checking the cluster to make sure the gauge is ok. EBT SB C/CX 4007 00.

Don't overlook the posability that it really might be overheating!
There may be a load on the engine from the hydralics or brakes or elsewhere. Just a thought.

Are you sure the tubes in the radiator aren't
blocked from old antifreeze? Hal

Does it have the 5.9L Cummins motor in it? Does the thermostat housing have space for two thermostats, but there is only one visible? It"s just a thought, but sometimes one of the thermostats can break and fall down into the water jacket further, causing overheating.
Are you sure that it is actually getting hot? I wonder if there"d be a way to take out the sending unit and install an aftermarket capilary type temp gauge like the old Farmalls had to verify the temp. Often those fittings are just pipe thread.

That's a little new for this forum... Not exactly an antique.

I think you found out why it was for sale. Probably the previous owner couldn't keep it from overheating either.

Sounds like you're doing a good, logical, systematic work-through of the problem. Problem is, all you have left to check for are SERIOUS engine problems.
