The H won't start unless I pull start it. It runs great after it starts. Fuel is getting to carb and the fuel strainer is clean. Gaskets look OK. Do you think there is not enough suction to get fuel to the cylinders? How can I check this? Randy

Check the rotor to see that it lines up to fire with the tower on the cap. The gears that drive the rotor mite not be lined up to allow the rotor to be lined up on impulse with the tower on the cap.

I had an H did the same thing. Rebuilt the magneto and it never failed to start again. And mine turned over real slow and still started.

You don't say whether your H has magneto ignition...

If it does and mag's impulse coupling is not working it'll be impossible to start with the starter. (If it is working the mag will make a noticable "click" every 1/2 revolution at cranking speed.)

The H has a magneto which seems to be working well. Give the tractor a little pull in third gear and she purrs like a kitten. Battery (6V), starter and electrical are all in good shape.

I think my problem is not enough suction to get fuel to the cylinders. Anybody had this problem?

It's possible the problem's a vacuum leak meaning draw enough fuel at cranking speed to fire. If that's the case using the choke (or giving it a whiff of ether) while cranking should cause it to start.

However my money's still on the magneto. Pull the center wire out of the mag cap, stick a good plug on it then crank the engine and see what kind of spark it throws. A lazy yellow (or no) spark says the magneto's causing your starting problems!

You could run a compression check on the cylinders
to see what your readings are. Low compression
is good indication of worn cylinders, rings and valves not seating. What shape is the battery,
battery cables and ignition? Pull out the coil
wire from the cap and have someone attempt a start using the starter with the ignition on
while you hold the coil wire within a 1/4" of a good ground. Should be a good hot spark, if good check at the sparkplugs too. Hal
When we had an H we didn't give it much choke when starting.
