The dealer's trying to pull one over on you guys. First of all, on a 686, there's no "numbers" to tell you if the tractor was equipped with or without a TA from the factory. The older tractors had a letter "S" stamped after the serial number if the tractor had a TA from the factory, but they quit doing that sometime around 1970. Second, if it's got the lever and linkage, it had a TA from the factory. If the dealer sold you guys the tractor with some sort of garuntee or promise of being in perfect mechanical condition, raise hell with them. It might not get you anywhere without some sort of legally-binding contract ot warranty, but worth a try.

i would say he was hornswaggeled,i have owned a bunch of 664-656-666-686 tractors if it has a lever it came out with a ta, i have a 666 and a 686 with ta and a 656 factory no ta, its possible it has a ta eliminater kit in it , but most likely low side is out of the ta, just my 2cents worth

Terry,

If mine sets for a long while and gets rained on, that derned lever gets awfully hard to work for a few days. Just as if something is rusting up.

I just had mine replaced a year ago too.

Dunno what's goin' on,

Allan

Hi Terry,

Sure, I have a bunch of pictures that would probably help walk you thru the process.

Email is uncovered.
