Hello Folks. Had to remove the transmission cover from a "C". The forks are attached to the cover but when I replaced the cover something may have changed. I can not shift through the gears as before.Still need to do some other work before I can actually run the tractor. Anyone out there with experience with aligning the forks with the gears? Thanks in advance.

We just did this to my C the other day. Shifter was put in neutral. One guy slowly lowered the crane, one guy kept the lid level and the third guy (our "smartest" guy) lined up the forks. With a flashlight, he stuck a long thin screwdriver in to slide the gears a little so the forks lined up with the grooves in the gears. Once the lid was down we shifted into each gear. We had to do it over three times to get it right, but it was easy with good help!

I have aligned them with no help, two people are better. Put the shifter and the gears in neutral. I use an engine hoist and get it as level as possible, keep checking the alignment until the cover is so low you can no longer see, let it down slowly and see if it shifts properly. It may take several tries.

I have done this with an H. I have done this with an H more than once. Jack up one of the rear tires. One of the forks isn't in place. Two people will help. A light and inspection mirror will too. When you think it's right again. Either tie down the clutch pedal or have someone hold it down. Check all the gears by turning the tire. Good luck, Ed
