I have several Diesel tractor"s. MD, SMD, SMTAD. All run very well. (I am fond of the old diesel"s, can you tell) I recently purchased another SMTAD, which is stuck. I have been squirting PB blaster in the Spark plug holes, which is what you do for the gas engines. Should I be doing anything different since this is a gas diesel. Thanks in advance

I don"t care what anyone says, PB Blaster is a good product. However, I have never had anything that works as good as a product called "Kroil" from Kano Labs. It has been around for years and used to only be available to industrial users, I think you can buy it as an individual. Get the gallon can you will use it for everything. As already mentioned, don"t forget to put the switch over lever to gas so the valve are open and the penetrant can get from the gas side of the engine to the diesel side.

Good Luck

To get to cylinders from spark plug hole with fluid, make sure the 4 starting valves in head are opening.Should open when switchover lever is in start position, but may be stuck also.

Whatever you do, I would use exceptional care. A diesel with spark plug holes is a rare tractor indeed.

Marc, the thing i have had the best luck with is spirits of turpitine. An old mechanic told me of this and it unstuck a 345 IH that had been sitting for years with the plugs left out. It worked for me! Good luck!!! Thats my two cents!

Hi Marc,

For the past 6 weeks, I have been doing lots and lots of "unrusting" freeing all sorts of frozen parts.

For my money, the PB blaster is a joke compared to the plain old fashioned Liquid Wrench penetrating oil.

The two don't even compare.

Just my opinion,

Allan

the main thing that blaster is good for is to melt styroform cups, read the label. the only penetrant that i have much luck with is acetylene.

Allan that is exactly what I have found, even good ol' wd-40 works better than PB blaster.

Growing up, my dad always used brake fluid to free rusty stuff. IT WILL EAT THE PAINT OFF!
However, I'm not sure I'd wanna pour that down a spark plug hole.

Brake fluid is Okay to pour in a spark plug hole. It was recommended to me for freeing stuck engines, I have tried it, didn't work, but did not do damage either. Other people I know have used brake fluid on stuck engines quite succesfully.
