I am looking at a Cub forsale down the road from me. I am not sure of the year but I believe it is not too early maybe 50's it has single fast hitch and a large "IH" emplem on the top center of the grill. The tractor comes with full set of cultivators and single bottom fast hitch plow. The tractor looks like it was always stored in side it still has original paint and dealers decale. Motor seems to run good. He is asking $2500.00. I feel that for this area that price is "top buck". Would offering $2000, be unreasonable?

It all depends on why you are interested in it. If to use for yourself and it runs good, buy it, IF you plan to restore and resale, don't buy. If its nice, it will sell , and perhaps you will lose out on a good buy.

Others will correct me if I'm wrong.
In 1955 the Cub came with a fast hitch, chrome IH emblem and chrome Farmall Cub emblem on the side of the hood, as well as pancake style head lights, bar grill that was all red and a few other things.
If it is one that is suppose to have the chrome side emblems, and they are missing, it will cost you $250 for a used pair from a well-know, midwest salvage yard, or $200 for reproductions.
I just thought I'd mention that in case you are planning to restore it.
Sealed beams for the headlights are about $35 each for new ones.

Gary,

What vendor has the chrome side emblems? I need some for my 1958 Cub. Thanks.

Larry

I sold one in very good condition, not rebuilt by me but real straight tin, yellow & white paint, new Firestone rear tires, no smoke, good oil pressure, Front Blade, one bottom plow, belly mount flail mower for $2,500. It may have been worth more but I only paid $1,000 for it less the tires. Guy drove 400 miles one way based on pics and description, paid cash, and loaded it, no questions asked. I sold it here on YT Photo ads.

Leee:

It is a fair price he is asking. The Fast Hitch is probably worth $500 by itself and the Cub-F194 Moldboard Plow is probably worth $150-$200US as well. Sooo, the Cub is around the $1800 already mentioned.

Try buying a Sears GT5000 for that price. The Cub is 100 times the tractor that the GT is and well worth the money.

I have 3. BigDog has a few as well.

I agree with BD too. Offer $2,000 and see where that leads. Also, make sure that if you want the tractor and he is not yet willing to take the $2,000, give him your contact info and ask for first refusal on an offer. That way you can sort of play the dicker game which can be fun by itself.

Let us know how you make out.

The seller will let you know if it is unreasonable. Around here, the price is about right. Offer $2200 and hold firm to your offer.

In my area $2500 is the norm for a cub once in a while you can find one cheaper but not often.

Those cubs do seem to be declining in value a bit. I think I would offer around $1,800, and work up from there. $2,500 does seem to be on the high end of the scale but maybe the condition of the tractor would put it at the high end?
