I just purchased a Farmall B. I suspect it is a BN because the rear isn"t the typical offset wide look, I am just not sure because I am unable to find a serial plate on the tractor anywhere. Is there another way to be sure other than to measure the rear axle? If not then where should I take my measurements, inside the tires or outside the tires? Thanks for the help.

I have measured the rear axle and both sides measure the same from fender to centerline. My pto is on center while the belt drive pulley is behind the drivers seat. The rear measures 72" total width. That was measured from outside to outside of both wheels.

the bn will have the seat support tight against the fender. the b will have a gap between the fender and the seat support (maybe 8" or so iirc). the pto on the b is centered over the drawbar, unlike the a which has an offset pto.

The rear wheels should be the same distance from the centerline of the engine. Someone mite have moved the left wheel in by taking the housing and axle out and replacing with the left axle from an A. You didnt say what the tires measured for rear tread.
