I have an old saw that mounts on the front of my Farmall H. It came with the tractor and was wondering if anybody new what it is called and how much it is worth. The person I got the tractor from said it was a “Jack” or “Jake” saw. Thank you for your comments.

I used one for years, best part - YOU GET TO STAND UP STRAIGHT ! No bending over - They work great for slabs, with a sharp blade, 2 or 3 people can really cut some wood.

We always called it a "buzz" saw. Quite popular for "buzzing" up a stack of firewood in the days before chainsaws were quite so popular and easy to use. Really not too much need for them anymore. The round blade is probably worth more money than the rest of the machine. Artists like to paint pictures on those blades.

We called them circular saws. Used the H for cutting firewood. Some may have called them buzz saws too. I like a chain saw better. Hal

We called them cut- off saws, &we cut our pine poles into approx 12 inch lengths. Then we split them, and that fired our cook stove. We got electricty in 1953.Hard to believe now---

I've heard them call that too. We fired that old kitchen stove with wood, sure made it nice and cozy in the winter. Had gas on the other half of stove and used it during the summer. Used the gas in the winter too. They have one of those old wood fired kitchen stoves at an orchard
up in Se PA and use it to make apple and peach pies. Sure does smell good when you walk in.
!953 was good year,I got drafted and married the same year. Best thing that ever happened to me.
Hal

PS: We had electric before that, I didn't like milking all those cows by hand.

We called them buzz saws. Ours was free standing so we had to chain it down to some stakes we had driven into the ground. Then used a flat belt from one of our tractors to power the saw.

Got electricity 1947 or 48.

I think we drove stakes into the ground even though it was attached to the H. When we had the 10-20 we used a free standing saw. I still have 3 chainsaws and do not use them very much anymore. Should had them when I was kid. One of my co-worker's and I made a log splitter and we would tow it into the woods and split all the large pieces. Sure made short work of splitting.
If it couldn't split it, it would shear it off,
Hal
