The govenor seems to be not controlling the top speed on my 300. I noticed the oil had some gas in it, making it really thin. Will this cause my problem? I"ve drained the oil and had rather check now with you before I refill it. If not the thin oil, which cover will I need to pull off to get to the govenor"s parts to repair it? My oil pressure is 25 at high idle and about1 or 2 at low idle. Should I pull the pan to clean/check for sludge on the screen while the oils out? Any help is appreicated. Thanks, davids

Gas in the oil will change the viscosity and affect the oil pressure. Put a good detergent oil in, a straight 30 weight is a good selection. See what happens to the oil pressure before you start taking things apart.

Are you able to adjust the RPMs at all? If you can the the govenor is working. Someone may have adjusted it for a higher RPM. A good repair manual will show you how to adjust the max RPM.

You also need to figure out how the gas got into the oil. If the carb float is not shutting off the fuel or the choke is stuck closed you may be sucking fuel into the engine. I would think that it would be smoking if that was the case.
