Hey everyone. Looking for a bigger tractor and came across an IH 650D. I was wondering what its worth. Are there rebuild kits available for these tractors? I am having trouble finding them. I have read of cracked heads due to being shut off while too warm. Is this a real problem? Are there 3pt hitches available for them? Anything else I should be looking out for? The good? The bad? The ugly? Thanks

Kevin

650/650D is a "standard" or "wheatland" tractor, made for pulling large (for their day) trailing implements. The wheels are not adjustable. Fast hitch or 3 point is not available for them, although Wardner adapted a fast hitch to a 600 or 650, I believe. These tractors were not designed for mounted equipment, I don't know what you would use a 3 point for on that type of tractor. As noted below a 656 would be a better choice, or some other similar sized tractor, if you want mounted equipment.

Kevin You did not say if it has a fast hitch or just standard draw bar . If just standard then 3 pt would be hard if it has a fast hitch on it 3 pt very easy. As for the 656 gas or diesel they were good tractors.

Look to spend around 2500 to 3000 for an in frame rebuild kit. No live pto and no TA. Yes they, and most other old diesels are prone to cracking heads. It would be very difficult if not impossible to convert to 3pt. Very nice tractor to have in your collection but there are much better users to be had.

I'm with the "Cowman",
656, 666, 686 - something on that order...

Yeah,

Aren't those old 650s a dry land "standard" type?

That's what they are! From the 1950s. In the same category as the WD-9 and the 600D.
