Does anybody know if the W4 was ever made in a diesel version. I saw one advertised on an auction.
Also, was there ever a W2 in the W series...W9, W6, W4,...W2?

There never was a W-4 diesel. There never was a W-2. The closest thing to a W-2 if they had made one would be a Hebard Shop Mule. Hebard Shop Mule had U-2/A/B engine, W-4 had U-4/H engine, W-6 had U-6/M/T-6 engine, WD-6 had UD-6/MD/TD-6 engine, W-9 had U-9/T-9 engine (yes there were a few T-9 gasoline built), and WD-9 had UD-9/TD-9 engine.

If you wanted to get bigger in IH powered wheel tractors in that era, M-R-S built a model which used the UD-14/TD-14 engine and a model that used the UD-18/TD-18 engine. I suppose these could have been a W-14 and a W-18 if IHC had built them. Just for fun information.

I didn"t think so on either issue. The W4 was on an auction bill and of course a mistake. The W2 was in Red Power Magazine and claimed to show a W2 in a row with the W4, W6, and W9, however the picture wasn"t quite good enough to discern the details. Thanks for the follow-up and to confirm my beliefs.
