Can anyone give me the stock weight of the following tractors.... i dont have owners manuals and i was deciding which to use as a pulling tractor

ih 986 w/ cab & wide front

ih 966 no cab & wide front

ih 706 diesel - no cab- narrow front

also.... other than the obvious (removing cabs, lights, 3 pt. etc.) what are some other ways to make these tractors lighter

The rear axles can be shortened. The frt knee's can be shortened. (The male pipe.) The piston and its housing for the 3 pt can come out from under the deck. A fiberglass nose can be put on. Get a smaller radiator. Like Erik said it depends on the rules.

According to my Hot line Farm Equipment guide, the 986 comes in at 10,625# the 966 is 11,116# and the 706 is 8,300#. the class you are pulling in will dictate what has to be left stock on the tractor, but the pto, hydraulics and factory drawbar can come off. also, take the factory cast rear rims off and use a hub mount duel set up. I have heard of people putting 06 series rear ends on 66 series tractors, then filling the rearend with greatstuff expanding foam to run less oil in the rear end.
