I just bought an International 300 Utility on a farm auction, and I was checking things out. I was trying to find out where you check the fluid level for the transmission/rear end and turned out a couple plugs. White fluid flowed from these plugs, and from what I know that means water in the oil. How and where would water get in this oil?

Also, where should I check the fluid level for the transmission/rear end and what type of oil should I use?

Thanks for reading this and any help is appreciated.

The check plug for trans & rearend is on the left side underneath the footrest. The drain plugs are under rear of tractor and the other is directly under the check plug on bottom of trans. You can use 80W90 or similar weight gear oil, unless tractor has T/A, then I would recommend Hy-Tran from CIH.

Jim, rear ends, transmissions can get high volumes of water just from condensation. If they are run on a pull all day and are hot then cool nights will make a lot of water. IH always claimed HI Tran would keep condensation down.

The check plug is under the seat on a 300U, hy-tran is a must, you have water in the oil thats why its white, change oil and check screen, you have to remove the transmission top cover a real pain to do but it can collapse and cause trouble.
