My brother and I are restoring a W-30. The pistons will not come out of the top of the block because the rod cap is bigger than the bore. Is this normal for this tractor or has someone changed the bore? We also need a fuel tank for the W-30 if anyone knows where one might be.

The IH Serviceman's Guide has the following information in paragraph 42 for Models F20-F30-1020-W30. Pistons and connecting rods assemblies can be removed from below without removing the cylinder head.

W-30 pistons are removed from below. You can actually remove them without removing the head. You tractor is normal.

I don't think IH had a tractor engine where the pistons were removed from below the block. Can you post a picture of that rod and block? How in heck, I'll use that today, could they assemble
the engine with the rod so big?

There's several people that have W-30's that post on here. One lives in MI. They may respond. Hal

W30 big end on con rod? Like my f20 project- crank is 2 main ball bearing, rod end is splash lubed. Tube at bottom of rod cap aligns with oil tray channel, oil is pushed into center through tube opening, side get some splash also. Crank journals are large, rod end also large-too large to go into cylinder bore. Just a minor detail of 1920's oiling system/crank design.
