Yes this is an IH topic. Got out at daylight and raked windrows together with the 560. That sure is a nice rake tractor on the double V rake. Then jumped on the Hydo 86 but the alfalfa is too dry to bale. got a bale started but it just goes "maw maw maw" and knocks all the leaves off. I'll have to finish the bale with some grass hay and wait for a morning with some dew but next 3 days are forcast for 100°+ so that ain't likely. So Monday I'll get back at my grass hay but with current conditions I can mow in the afternoon and start baling the next morning.

Hi Cowman, I can't get hay dry, here in northeast Ia. I cut some 3rd crop alfalfa hay wednesday and it will be monday at the earliest before it's dry enough to bale. I cut with a 450 diesel and a 499 New Holland hydraswing haybine. I will be small square bale all of this crop with a 300, and a 435 bailer. I have all 50 acers down now. This hay was cut only 21 days ago, and it was up to the push bar on the haybine, and 35% blomed out, The cows should milk with that kind of hay. I have never had hay grow that fast. I got 10 inches of rain in july and had very little run off, and had all that heat to go with it. The mosquitos are visious. Keith

Howard,
Talked to a buddy of mine in the piedmont of NC (central part) yesterday and he lost 15 acres to fire b/c of dry weather. Some high school kids desided to park in his hay field and set the field and their car on fire. Said they came up to his door about 10 wanting 911 and pointing to this field. Hated to loose that much hay but couldn't help but laugh. At least no one got hurt and the local fire dept. got some fire training.

i dont know how you guys do it down there. ive heard of people spraying down there hay so they can bale it. we are truly blessed with exellent hay making weather in central wisconsin. we dont rake untill early afternoon then start baling at dinner time. a large portion of wis. and ill. are having a rough time without rain. fortunately we have had enough and our first and second crops were really nice. hopefully our 3rd will be the same. i do all my raking with a 504 and bale with a 574 or super M. i enjoy baling with the SM. then pull wagons to barn with a 47 M. good luck with your hay....
