IH irrigation pump motor...information?

I have been looking around at the local Farmall junk yard and came across a Whitewesting irrigation pump that has an IH motor as the power plant. The Whitewesting plate on the pump says 1971 model. The motor is a 4 cylinder with a big IH stamped in the block at the front lower left (facing the radiator) and the casting number on the block is 534465R1 (the last digit could be an "I"). The distributer comes out on the left side of the block about midway and angles out and up. The missing carb would be on the right side (facing the radiator). It looks to be relatively the outside demensions of an M Farmall motor. Can you tell the cubic inches of the motor from this casting number...HP? Could this bolt up to an M? What else is needed to get information about this mystery?

It's not a U4/6 as the carb and distributer are reversed. The 6 cyl 460/560 engines have the design you describe, including the IH at the left front of the block. I'm not familiar with the later 4 cyl engines.

Check for info on U6 engine- M engine version for utility/pumps/whatever stationary use needed. Possible that crank flywheel end not bored for clutch pilot shaft bearing, starter may be alongside engine and bellhousing end may be missing a mounting bolt area. Archives may have discussion of U4 (H size) engine swap into tractor- these problems noted, also had oil dipstick instead of pan petcocks. RN

RN, in the archives you said that a U6 is like an M. Is this right? Or is the U6 a 6 cylinder? Thanks for the info.

Have you tried your local Case/IH dealer? That casting number may in their computer. Send an email to bhershey@hoober.com and ask them about that casting number, if they have anything they will tell you. It's probably one of their tractor engines. They've been used on everything balers, combines and pumps. Hal
