W-30 head torque+engine question

I"ve yet to find the service manual around here, and need some help. I need the torque specs for the head on the W-30. And is there any specific pattern for tightening them, or just start in the center and work outward?

Also-for anybody that"s had the head off one of these....we found out that the pistons come ABOVE the block about a 1/4 inch at top dead center. It"s the first time we"ve ever seen an engine like this. I guess it"s normal?

Thanks for any help,
Brandon

never had a W30 apart but from working around 10-20s and f30s I'd say they are probably high compression pistions. can't help you with the head. i just work out from the center. as far as torque spec, i tighten them til they "feel" right and then use that reading to keep them all the same.

I rebuilt a F-30 last winter and torqued the head to 90 ft.lb.s and went in 3 steps from 30/60/90 starting in the center and went in a circle out. I could not find a torque setting anywhere either! My pistons are part #2919 and went 3/8 inch above the deck and are the 5000 altitude set. So far so good!
