The oil pan on my 504 is missing the center bolt in the front of the pan and the center bolt in the rear of the pan. I removed one of the other bolts and it won"t thread into the hole. Does anyone know if it is a different size thread or do I most likely have a stripped hole? If it is stripped what are my options? Thanks for the help.

both your previous responses have good input. The majority of the pan bolts are 5/16NC x 3/4" (which should also cover the center bolt front and back). The four longer bolts go on either side of the center bolts (front and back). They go through the pot metal blocks (rectangular shapped pieces that complete the oil pan sealing surface [as well as bottom of rear main seal retainer and front cover] but are removable to allow the crankshaft main caps to come off) and actually thread into the crankcase farther up.

The center positions are by far the weakest and strip the easiest. If you end up machining on the blocks, you should be able to pull the blocks by dropping the pan (there will be three bolts at the bottom of the front cover and the rear seal retainer). Take a look at the back bolts to verify there's enough room behind the flywheel though? And I'm with CNKS, I have yet to stop the leaks even with all the bolts in place ;)

Have a helicoil installed, will be good as new.
I would also put a bead of RTV on the surface of the oil pan where it contacts the block. Hal

If I remember correctly, my 504 had larger bolts in the back and front too. They tread into an aluminum seal holder so they strip easily.

I don't have a 504, but all the pans I have seen have the same diameter bolts. First thing to try is to get the correct size tap, and try to rethread, or at least "repair" the threads. 2nd choice is to use a heli-coil, which I believe requires enlarging the hole. If you use a Permatex type gasket making product, you may be able to get by without those bolts, but I have trouble stopping leaks with all bolts in place.
