TA?

I beleive my 350 does have a TA, even though the clutch linkage is gone and a hole on the trans has been sealed. (Thought I might break 'er down this winter and get the TA working)
Can anyone confirm - if a serial number is followed by a designator letter, the letter means one of various options are on the tractor.

My 350 has an "S" following the serial number, which I believe means Independent PTO with TA.

Thanks in advance...
Pestering you again from Illinois!

Illinois Boy If it has a TA with the linkage removed the tractor will shaft hard because both main and TA clutch must reliese at the same time so I would say it was taken out and a shaft put in as if never had TA.

Hi people-Have been rfeading this forum along with the grey and red. Curious- what does TA stand for and what is it? Don`t own a red tractor but someday will. Used to drive one of the neighbors when I was a youngster. Thanks for any replies.-Bill

Bill,
It stands for Torque Amplifier. I believe some other manufacturers have a similar way of accomplishing this and give it different names. Basically, its a way to downshift to a lower gear ratio, on the fly, without stepping on the clutch, should the operator hit a rough spot with a plow (i.e. clay soil), baler (i.e. heavy spot in windrow), etc. It's an IH thing wher you can lower the tractor to get through a rough spot, and then shift back up to the original speed - all done in the same gear without stopping the forward motion of the tractor.

The info I have says "S" as a suffix means T/A with provisions for IPTO too. So it seems like it did have T/A when it came out of the factory.
It sounds like somebody may have removed it though. Hard to tell what may have been done over the past 50 years.
