Hi; 'need some help on identifying voltage on a tractor I just bought. It's a 1950 Farmall H. The generator and voltage regulator were removed before I got it, and all the wiring leading to the lights and the the bulb themselves are missing. I see no indication on the starter itself (other than serial #), and wheatering has removed any indications on the coil. How can I tell if I have a 12V or 6V tractor?. Previous owner was starting the motor with a 12V battery, but I worry I could damage the starter if I continue doing this. I plan to restore to a 6V, original condition...
Thanks!

IF the tractor had ever been converted to 12 volt there most likely would have been a ballast resistor in the wire that fed the coil, meaning that your coil is probably a 6 volt coil. The starter also is most likely the original 6 volt starter, 12 volts will not hurt the starter. The light bulbs, either 12 or 6 volt will fit in the same socket so you can go either way.
