Replaced the grease seal and bearings on the shaft of the flat belt pulley and all seems good. Now I would like to clean the tranny lube residue from the belt pulley itself. The last time I used it for the buzz saw it leaked grease which got on the pulley and belt too and turned the pulley black. What is it made of and what can I use to clean it up? It seems like a fiber like material and I"m not sure how aggressive of a cleaner I can use on it.

The pulley is made of paper pieces sandwiched together. The grease will work very well as a "belt dressing" as you use the pulley for power. Seems contradictory, but the grease will grip very well after a short time running.

Wayne is correct don't remove it from the pulley surface. From the rest of the pulley hub and mounting mineral spirits, or a commercial degreaser will clean up the act. don't soak the paper drum with solvent/cleaner.
