My dad took the springs out of a different pump that felt alittle bit more stiff that the pump we had on it. It seemed to pump fuel better, but would only pump up to the top of the fuel line by the carb, but would not pump any farther. I am also thinking that the fuel pump push rod may have been farmerized, it only pushes about 1/4" out from the block, the rod is exactly 7" long. Could this possibly be my problem??

Yes I put in a new diaphram, but I got it running tonight. I don"t know if this is the right fix or not, but it worked. When I took the pump off yesterday it was pumping almost to the carb, but not enough for it to start. So we looked at the push rod and I thought it was alittle too short. When I had the pump off I used a screwdriver and pushed the plunger, and it shot gas about 2-3 feet in the air. So I got to thinking that maybe the push rod was just alittle to short to do anything. Today I bought a piece of smooth 3/8" rod and added about 1/4" to the throw, I hand cranked the engine, just to make sure that extra 1/4" wasn"t going to do anything to the cam or pump, everything sounded good so,I fired up the JD B and gave it a pull, and my dad said it shot fuel pretty quick, and in about 30 feet of pulling she took off. All it takes is 1 crank and she is running. Thanks to all who offered advice!!
