Any of you guys can tell me what engine i can use to replace a D-282? I am trying to repower my TD-9B but I may also want to do it in a 560D. I have been told that a D-301 uses the same block but I don't know anything about that engine other than that it was a diesel combine motor. Extending the frame is NOT an option so it can't be any longer than the D-282. What I really want is a "Drop-in" engine.
Help...!

I know little about the diesels, as my 460 is gas. But, my understanding is that the 282 and 301 have the same dimensions, the difference being that the 301 does not have sleeves. The 706 used both the 282 and the 310 (not the 301). Others will have more info.

I believe you may be right about the dimensions being the same but don"t know for sure. As far as the the D-310 goes, that is the same German diesel used in the 756. I believe the later 706"s that used the D-310 were slightly longer overall to accomodate that engine. Perhaps someone out there can either confirm or refute that...?
Thanks,
Tom

The 310D german diesel 706's are four inches longer in the hood and frame rails than the 282D 706's.

Exactly my point... That ain't gonna' work in a dozer... I don't really have any extra room. So... My question still appears to remain unanswered...
Anyone else...???
