I was baling some orchard grass on share about 12 miles from home and left my M and baler parked in the field about a half mile from the road. When I went to move all my equipment home that oil fill cap was gone, I remember putting it on when I added a little oil. Whoever took it had to drive right bay the owners house and I no he wouldn't take is, he has a New Holland and he's a cop.

I lucked out and found one on eBay, but it sure takes a lot of nerve to do that.

I always believe someone stole my socks when I can"t find them. Odds are better that you didn"t tighten it up and it"s laying somewhere in the field.

I try to keep a bucket of tar and a bag of feathers on hand for such occasions.

My guess is that someone will probly end up buying it on ebay before to long its little things like that that bring a desent buck. Usally 7 to 10 bucks on ebay heck a good night and you could have beer and smoke + gas money for a week or more. lol

You're lucky they didn't fill it full of dirt, or did they? .

I had them pop front tires and the play paint ball on the tractor and the round bales. I got done baling and was tired and went home without hauling the hay the same day. MISTAKE. Now, I haul all and take the machines too. Some of them drove dirt bike up and over the bales, what a mess.

Sounds like you might not have got it tight enough after you added oil. My Uncle always told me to tap it tight with a wrench. Guess he did not want to lose another one.

I always snug it up with the crescent wrench to make sure it stays tight.

I've had them back off the threads if they weren't snugged up. That was on an F-20 though.

Bobg,
Welcome to the age of disrespect. I say that because I'd bet my last dollar that they don't NEED the cap - just stole it to be a jerk - which it seems they've accomplished. My neighbor had some youngsters stealing the gas out of his tank - 'till he filled it with water one afternoon. Didn't take the Sheriff long to solve that one...

Just wait until you have someone put horse turds in your fuel tank. It sure takes a long time to get your tank cleaned!
