What is an IH 710 5-16 auto reset plow worth?

I'm looking at an IH 710 auto reset (springs) plow. It has 5-16 bottoms, good tail wheel tire, is stored outside but aside from faded paint, is in pretty good shape.

How much is something like this worth?

In Wisconsin about 1600 to 2500 dollars. If you ask me it one of the best plows IH made we have a 710 3-18 and it is great it hardley ever plugs even in heavey corn stocks.

Check the moldboards for wear. That is a big expense item to replace. Also the landslides. I bought a 5x18 720 for $1300 with new moldboards.

How much wear is too much in the moldboards and landslides?

Is there a good way to tell when they're shot just by looking at them?

Look at the trailing edge of the moldboards to see the edge thickness and also on the curve see if you start to see spot wear. Landslides are a wear out item like the lays or shears. But look to see if they are worn to the point that the supporting structure is also not wearing away.

I have in the past done some touch up welding on the moldboards before they worn thru and got a couple extra years out of them. A 710 plow was one of the best. The 720 as others have said is better in plowing heavy trash and stalks due to its clearance. I do not know in what price range you are looking at but if its decent with the coulters 800 might be OK. My friend bought a very nice 4x16 710 for 700.

Thanks for the advice. They're asking 650 for the plow. If it checks out I'll get it.

That is not a bad price and if the moldboards do not have holes thru you will have done OK. It is a good plow and will turn a lot of trash. 720 is a bit better in that department, but the 710 was a big improvement over the others.

Just saw a model 720 auto reset 6-16" sell for $1,050 near Humboldt, Iowa about a month ago. It looked like new and almost mint condition. The 720 is a much better plow than the 710 if you have much trash to cover. 710 plows will plug much easier. 710 plows are usually worth about $400 - $500 depending on condition.
