I recently rebuilt my engine in my Super A. Although I have .002-.003 clearance on the rods and mains, my oil pressure seems to be low and almost drops off when the engine is hot. I do not have any engine noise however. I have the oil pan off now to replace the gasket, but cannot find anything in my service manual to adjust the oil pump. The oil pressure gauge checked out OK. Can the pump be adjusted??

When my Dad rebuilt his super C 20+ years ago he replaced the warped oil pump cover with a new one
and fabricated a steel retainer that applies pressure to the area between the cover bolts.
If My memory is correct the retainer is about 3/16
or 1/4" thick by about 5/8" steel strap. It is bent and welded to follow the shape of the flange of the cover. It is held with the same bolts as the cover. Mechanics at the dealer said these engines never had good oil pressure, But this one still does after many hours of field work.
Sorry for rambling on just hope this helps

When I rebuilt my H a few years ago, I found that the gears had worn a path in the cover. I took the cover off and surface ground it to flat. I took the gasket out entirely. I would also check the pressure relief valve, the spring might be gone. My oil pressure is excellent. I tried for .001 head spacing. Easy.

The cover on the pump is warped, allowing the gasket to blow out between the pump and the cover. I fixed the last cover by sanding it on a pane of glass.

I know the IH manual call for .002"-.003" clearance, but I think it should be .001-.0015"
and I'm not sure if the Super A has cam bearings.
The A, B and C used the block bore with no bearings. What weight oil are using? I always used 30wt. It will get very thin too, on a hot day. Too much clearance on the cam will cause low
oil pressure. Hal

First, I would inspect the gasket in the pump where the plate bolts on for gaps or missing pieces of gasket. These plates will sometimes warp causing gaskets to blow out.

If you don’t find anything there, then it is possible that the cam bearings are worn and you are loosing oil pressure there.

Good Luck!
