my 48 H starts fine, runs for about 3 minutes at idle and quits as if you shut the mag off. I"ve gone thru the carb and fuel system, what about the mag? any suggestions?

Sounds like you may have a bad coil.

Clean those points and set the gap at .013". New points and condenser may be in needed. When it quits check for fire at your plugs, should be a hot spark. Hal

Hey Hal, Shouldn't the points gap be 0.020"? I got an H with a C-169 engine with a C-175 kit in it and I set the gap according to the H specs in the IT manual. Would those specs be different for a 300 or 350?

Cheers!

Sid

Hi Sid, That's .020" on a distributor setting and on mags it's .013". Hal

I was having that same problem with my S/A.
Turned out that the points in the mag were oxidizing. I would clean them & it was ok until it sat for a month or so then it would do it again. I bought some points from NAPA & no more problem.
