I have a problem. I have recently changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires on a Farmall 560 Gas tractor along with changing the engine oil and oil element.

My problem now is the tractor will start and run for say about 3-5 minutes then just quits and wont start again for awhile. I have went back out to look at it more after say 30 minutes to a hour has went by and it will start then stop again. I know I put the wires back on in the correct order. I only did 1 plug and wire at a time so I wouldnt get them mixed up.

Thanks for any help in advance.

A couple of weeks ago I spent alot of time chasing down the problem of a poor running 560, turned out to be a bad ballast resitor if your tractor still has one. I put o 12 volt coil on it was good as new. But as said above check fuel supply dont forget the inlet screen on carb. And the ignition system..Jim

You should check for fire at your plugs when it quits. If you still have fire, check for fuel blockage to the carburetor. Hal

Sounds like you may have a condenser going bad. I'd change the point and condenser and see what happens. I take about an hour for the coil to do that but only around 5 minutes for a condenser to do that. Or it could also be in the fuel system but I'd almost bet on the condenser

Could be that some rust or sediment has let loose in the tank and is partially blocking the fuel supply. Check the screen in the sediment bowl and with it off see if you get a good steady stream of fuel. Or the screen in the inlet at the carb? If its not fuel maybe the coil is going bad and gets hot and cuts the circuit. Is the coil hot when the tractor shuts off? Just some ideas. You will find something with a litle troubleshooting. I did get it started again after checking the fuel system and replacing the points and condenser, however it was still shutting off. I reached to touch the coil and that thing was rather hot. I guess I will change it out Monday seeing as how there are no implement dealers open on Sunday.

I also forgot all about this when I made my first post, but this isnt the first time this has happened as of late. The last time I went to use it prior to this, It would run for 45 minutes to a hour then die, but you could generaly start it back up and go again for alittle bit longer any where from 5-15 minutes before it would cut out again. I only ran it like that that one time and stopped using it out of fear of causing more damage without knowing what was wrong with it then.

Thanks for all your help I will post again sometime next week when I get that coil replaced.
