Front end of 49 H all ready for reinstall of bolster, radiator, and fan assemblies. Anyone know what paint steps were taken here? Were fan blade and belts installed before red paint applied? Assume radiator was black before installed but how did they paint shroud without getting lot of red on radiator? And if they painted front grill on the tractor, there would be a lot of red overspray on radiator front side?
Doesn't seem like they would want that red enamel all over the cooling fins. I/m inclined to go with gloss black fan blade, littler red overspray. Flat black radiator,no overspray anywhere. And oh yeah, found a set of the 49436Ds pump bearings in town, looking for the 51492D seals. Anyone got them?

Regardless of what IH did, your tractor will look better if disassembled and the parts painted separately. It makes little sense to me to reinstall everything then paint, as you will not get proper coverage. I would leave the radiator core black, and paint the tanks, radiator frame and fan red -- only my opinion. Paint the shroud separately also. You will scratch your new radiator paint when you reinstall the grille, though, unless you are extremely careful. My goal is to make it look better than it came from the factory. Not hard to do, as IH was not known for their paint jobs.

Everything was red. Assemble the whole tractor and go to town with the spray gun. Just leave off the dist. cap and wires, tape over the guage faces, and the headlight lenses. Spray the rest. There was red overspray on the rad.

The Chicago-Rawhide part number for that seal is:
13084

Good luck.

I agree,

Every blessed thing on 'em were red except the rims/tires, muffler, the glass on the gauges, serial number plate and the distributor cap and wires.

Once in awile, you'd see a new one with the shift knob not painted, but usually it got the treatment too.

Also, the grey factory seat pad was not painted nor the emblem on the front of the tractor.

I think you will need to paint all those parts individually and then install. Hal
