is there a way to improve brakes on farmall 400 ? i changed to a asbestos disc pad and it still gums up the plate ? i used new balls and new springs. are there over size balls that work better. i am hillside farmer and without better brakes it is going down the road. tinkernational

Don`t want to be a wet blanket, but I have 5 tractors with disc brakes and have never been happy with them and I have tryed most everything. When they work they work, but it seemes to be a challenge. There are posts on the archives that may help. Good luck.

On the plates where the balls set in, there is probably a lip that the balls are having to overcome. Take a dremel and smooth out the travel area of the ball on the plate so it can more easily move. I did that on my SM and it solved the braking problem. Since you have new balls they aren't flat-spotted.
