Does anyone know if a howard gear reducer from a Ford 2N could be retrofitted to a farmall such as a 100 130 or 140? I need to find a way to slow down a farmall. Thank you for your help.

anything is possible!! with that said, I have adapted several medium HP (100-200) drive lines with intermediate boxes to add lower gearing. The unit you have? has a relitively small torque tube (middle cast iron case) with a shaft in it. Fitting a small profile gear box in it may pose a challenge. Some things to remember: Using an auto gear box with a short tailshaft housing (like a early 60s chevy three speed) will definately handle the power. And second, Drive shaft linearity is mandatory. Third, Shifting with Push pull acbles is easy to install. forth: Anchoring the "Box" to the tractor frame/torque tube is manditory to absorbe gearing forces. fifth: Using the input shaft from the other trans in the IH clutch will require a different driven disk. And last, do not cut into the casting of the Farmall (except for mounting holes). Big material removal will be instant break in half business.

Good luck! A cheaper (far easier) way to go may be a hydro based unit.
Good engineering. Jim Nicholson

Thank you,Mr Nicholson, for your response. In spite of your encouragement "Anything is possible" and your very succinct instructions I do not believe I am up to the engineering task, even for a birthday present. "A cheaper (far easier) way to go may be a hydro based unit." Are you refering to a Hydracreeper or is there something else I should be looking for to go on a small Farmall? I can put it on a 100,110,130,140,A,C,or H. So far I've had no leads on the Hydracreeper. I would appreciate any other information or leads you can provide. Thank you again for your time.
