Hi i tryed to post this once before but I guess it didn't work soo I'm pretty new to Farmall's and need a recomendation I am looking for a utility tractor something for small hobby farm. I'm disabled so am looking for a tractor that is hand operated or would be easy to convert. Someone suggested older model Farmall 400 or similiar. Can you tell me what tractors had hydro's in the 60's or 70's and what you might suggest for loader tractor and some light discing and dragging etc. Thanks
P.S. I will need power steering and am trying to stay under 5k budget

You can easily find pictures of the tractors that are recommended to you using a google search.

How are you disabled? If someone recommended a 400, either they didn't know what they were talking about or you're only mildly disabled. It's gear drive, and without some pretty Rube-Goldberg looking contraptions, hand controls are out of the question.

I will need to control everything with hand controls. I will have to adapt most any tractor with swivel seat and a new seat set-up. i have a lift idea already that I think I can adapt to work. What i am researching is finding the most user friendly once I get in As I have been getting deeper in I am thinking that it may be better to modify a foot clutch on the tractor that suits my needs the most. The hydro idea has its attraction as far as ease of operation but I too am a little wary of of an older hydro just with my experience with skidloaders. Thanks for the input I would like to hear alittle more about Farmalls as I don'y know muich about them.

Paul: I presume when you say disabled, height does make a difference. You mention utility, is that the type of tractor your looking for? 656 was the first with hydrostatic drive, it came around 1967 or 68 in both Farmall and Utility models. Later ther was a Hydro 84, it was a utility.

I've seen a few gear drive tractors with some nice hand controls. Those old Hydros scare me. Most of them are getting well worn by now.
