A friend of mine has a Pettibone model 6 lift

that uses an IH UB-220 engine. He loves the lift but hates the engine because it"s really underpowered for the size of the machine.
My question is this:
I have no experience with the UB-220 at all and I was wondering if anyone out there knows if they used the same block as some other larger engine. Might it be the same as the block for a C-236 or C-263?? He would like to
repower it rather than overhauling the 220 if he can but doesn"t want a bunch of "Cobbling" to get something to fit in there.
Thank you all for taking the time to ponder this.

Pettibone may be able to answer your question. Send an email to info@gopettibone.com Hal

You should post the model number of your present
engine and some of these men may have replaced
that model with another engine for more power.

Hough loaders used a variety of engines and were owned by IH for awhile. Hal

UB-220 is the model of the engine... It"s obviously an IH engine as it says so right on the side. The thing looks just like an IH 263 six cylinder. I just want to know if he can replace it with one without a big hassle...

There's a lot of things to consider when replacing
an engine. These are just a few: motor mounts,
flywheel accepting pressure plate, pilot bearing
for transmission shaft, bell housing and I'm sure there's many more that I haven't listed. A bigger
engine will create more heat and then the radiator may not be large enough.

It may be better to put in an oversize sleeve kit and pistons, if it has sleeves. It's going to be a hassle if you swap engines. I put a V8 283
Chevy engine in a truck that came with a 6 cylinder. That was a hassle too, different motor mounts and drive shaft too short just to name few.

They don't know - it's an IH engine...
