My H farmall has started vibrating, as if the gears are needing oil, and try as I might, I can't figgure out where to check it, or where to add oil. haven't ordered a manual yet, but need help now, before the manual comes. Anyone care to advise me? thanks, ed

There is a 1/2 " plug on the clutch side of the
transmission. Pull it out and using your fingertip see if you can touch the oil in the trany. Oil should flow from the plug when you remove it. The fill is on the floor plate, on the right side of the steering column. You need a pipe wrench or a 3/4" rachet to remove it.

Thanks Jed. I found it exactly like you said. I added nearly five gallons before it ran out the gauge plug. Hope I caught it in time. It seems to do alright and don't make any growls. ed

Ed, If you added five gallons you only had one gallon in the transmission and final drive as it only holds six gallons. The transmission section was probably dry and you had a little in the final drive section. Roger

It's too late for that now... If you run the tranny dry until everything starts grinding and vibrating and siezing, the damage is done. No amount of oil is going to fix it. Figure on a complete rear end rebuild.

Anyway, there's a big plug on the top of the platform to add oil, and a level plug on the right side of the rear end casting. The drain plugs are underneath, front and back.

Nat, your fingers are walking over this keyboard faster then you're thinking. The level plug is on the left as you're sitting on the tractor. Just ahead of the clutch pedal. About halfway down the side of the torque tube. Good luck, Harley

Yeah, that's what I meant. LEFT side. Dunno why I was thinking right side.

Hey, I had to jump in there cause I just learned the difference two and a half weeks ago, and I really like to use that "left and right" stuff. Gives me something else to clutter up my brain. Harley
