Working on grandpa"s old H and have noticed two things I am not sure about. First one is the belt pulley drive lever is on the clutch side of the tractor and has no hole in the end of it to run up to the steering pedestal. Second is there is a bracket with original paint the way it looks next to the brake pedals. Its in the shape of a curl (about two inches tall)and one bolt holds it on. Was this maybe there to hold a hyd hose or hand crank?? Also this tractor didn"t have a foot starter lever, was it origianl to have just a pin or bolt through the bottom to hit the button? Thanks guys and sorry for the long post.

The curved bracket you are asking about is for keeping the hydraulic hose up and out of the way, I removed one just like it from my M. The '39s and some early '40s had the belt pulley engagement lever facing the direction that yours is. My mid year '40 H and late '40 M both have the belt pulley lever in the more familiar location, so I am thinking that maybe the belt pulley on your '44 is not original to the tractor.

FmrBoy I have a '39 M and was told that the belt pulley setup to the clutch side was only on the 1939 and very early 1940 models. Probably one of those things like the seat assembly that is unique to the'39 and early'40 H and M's. I don't know when the changeover date was. Have fun with the old H. Tom

Fmrboy, The earlier models did have the pulley engage lever on the clutch side and did not extend through the steering post. i"m not sure what year that changed, but i"m thinking on the post war models and about the same time that the starter switch was relocated from the fuel tank pedistal to a bracket just below the light bar on the left side of the steering post. The early H did not have the same foot lever to engage the starter as did the later M, but did as you say have a pin which went through the steering post and rest against the starter switch. It took a twist of the foot to engage the starter switch. The curl you speak of is the bracket which holds the hydraulic control lever. If you dont have the belly pump hydraulic system, then you wouldnt have the lever.

Had to look it up. 351922R11 - Starting switch actuating lever
351924R1 - Starting switch actuating lever bracket
Probably couldn't find new ones, but at least you know what to call them.
One of my H's has a bracket behind the brake petals. I assumed it was an over travel stop for the brakes, but guess I'm wrong about that, maybe to hang your hat on while working under it.

The lever on the belt gearbox can be mounted backwards. A nut on the inside of the gearbox holds it on. It was probably changed so the belt drive could be started and stopped from the left side of the tractor without getting in the belts way.
All my H's have the starter button on the steering column. I have seen a foot starter on ebay that when stepped on would push the lower button tho.
