The Steering on this 656 gas howls like air is in the system. Cannot get it to quit by turning the wheels all the way to the left and right. Could there be an 0-ring blown letting air into the system and where whould I look?? Maybe something more serious?? Tractor seems to steer ok. Hy-Tran Fluid not old.

Make shure that you have a good seal on the plate you take off to get at the filter in can leak air.

Yep,

When they 'squeal', they are telling you that the filter is probably by passing.

The filter is not very old. I thought that might be the problem also. Sounds like the system is sucking in air from somewhere.

The system isn't "sucking air." It's under pressure, so it would be "spraying oil."

The only place it could be sucking air is at the hydraulic pump intake, and you'd have other problems.
