What is the component in front the mag – believe it is a pump – is it part of the lift-all system

What fluid goes into it – it is dry

what’s it’s function, there is a lever attached to a rod that goes to operator area

After a qucik look in the manauls I saw no mention of it.

If the opening you looked in that was dry had round cover that screwed off it was engine oil fill opening and it is normal for it to be dry. Any live pump for H that I have seen does not have fill hole on pump.

Yes that was what I was thinking too. The shutter control rod. You turned it from back at the bottom of the steering and it opened and closed the shutters in front of the radiator. Its hard to say if its all there still most were taken off and thrown in the shed. JON

That rod that you have referred to on the mag, is
that used to "kill" ground out your mag when stopping the engine? Hal

Could it be "live hydraulics" and as noted below, rod is not for it at all ? Any fittings or hoses attached to "pump"?

I believe you're talking about the distributor or magneto bracket. The control rod opens and closes the radiator shutters. It is not a pump for the lift-all.

I think you are right, now that I go a look at it again, the rod goes to a arm that is attached to a shaft that goes thru the housing near the oil filler, the other side of the shaft is another arm - there is no rod on this arm as was probably for the missing shutters.
