I am trying to separate the lower bolster from the upper bolster so as to drop the steering shaft and replace some very leaky seals. I managed to remove the four main nuts from the bottom of the lower bolster and expected the unit to fall off - which it didn't. After removing the two rearward (engine side) bolts I noticed that the two bolts up front seem to have caps on them giving them an acorn nut appearance. Gaining access to these nuts is very difficult as it would appear I need an offset type wrench - which I don't have. Has anyone removed these two bolts and how did you do it? I cannot get the same box end wrench around them as the space between the nut or bolt heads and the casting is two small for my wrenches. I'm fearful of using an open end because I don't want to strip the bolt heads. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sometimes the 4 bolts and holes in lower bolster
rust and make it hard to slide off bolts. The tall headed bolt goes in front right corner with wheels straight ahead.Should be just one with tall
headed bolt.If you want to get at heads on 4 bolts
and were planing to remove shaft anyway, remove nut
on top of shaft and let it drop down a few inches
with tractor jacked up.No problem getting wrench
on then.

It has been a while since I removed one but if I remenber correctly it should drop down after removing nuts and jacking tractor up to remove weight. One bolt has special head that runs in groove and acts as stop to limit steering angle.

It will fall off. The bolts are the stop bolts which the larger head that you see contacts a stop but I was thinking the use a rear hole and there should only be one. At any rate you should be able to get a wrench on by turning the wheels one way or the other. But if you have all four nuts off there should be nothing but friction holding the bolster on.
