Leak in fuel shutoff - fix?

My diesel fuel shutoff leaks out the packing nut. I think the packing (if that's what it is) is all gone because the nut is tightened to it's full extent.

Any way to fix this with new packing material, and if so, what do I use, and where do I get it?

Thanks.

Hi Frank,

Natural gas or LP valve packing will also work. Any LP gas supplier will sell you some.

Don't know what tractor you are talking about but on a Farmall H or M a complete new sediment bowl assembly with fuel shutoff is somewhere around $20. You can probably buy all of the individual parts and rebuild it yourself and would spend at least twice that much.

May get flack on this, but a buddy of mine (who is one of the best tractor restorers I know) says
that there is no packing in those fuel shut off valves. The fix is a replacement. If you are looking for origanality, go for a new one from Case IH, if like me you want no leaks go to the hardware store and get a modern ball valve. Remember to add a piece of fuel line to get it off the bottom of the tank.
