While cleaning the differential case on my Super H I found a 2x3x1/2" thick piece of cast iron that had broken off of something, I thought it was a piece of the case but found nothing suspicious after numerous inspections. I had forgotten about the mystery piece until this past weekend when I was cleaning the bull gears. I noticed that they were different. One has six holes and an older H part number, the other has three holes in the center casting and a six digit part number. It is also noticably heavier than the H gear. The broken piece matches the newer gear in color and thickness exactly. My theory is that the other original gear broke and was replaced by a gear from an H. Any thoughts on what would cause a bull gear to break??

The gear runs very close to the bottom of the case. I know many cases were broken when a bearing spit a ball out and it got wedged between the bull and case. Could be someone tried to pull start the thing with ice in the Trany case too.
